Nice burn. Remember, you cannot out train a bad diet though. Pair this with the right food and the results come fast.

Ever wondered how much a run, a bike ride, or a lifting session really burns? This calculator estimates it from three things: the intensity of the activity, your body weight, and how long you go.

How calories burned are calculated

The estimate is based on MET values, short for metabolic equivalents, a standardized scale of how intense an activity is compared to sitting still. A MET of 8, for example, means the activity burns about eight times the energy of resting. We combine the activity's MET with your body weight and duration to estimate total calories burned.

What changes your burn

  • Body weight: heavier bodies burn more for the same activity.
  • Intensity: harder efforts have higher METs and burn more per minute.
  • Duration: longer sessions burn more overall.

Reading the result

Treat the number as a solid estimate, not a precise measurement. It does not account for individual differences in efficiency, fitness, or terrain, so use it to compare activities and plan your week rather than to chase an exact figure.

Burn plus fuel

Here is the honest truth: you cannot out-train a poor diet, because it is far easier to eat 500 calories than to burn them. Exercise is powerful for health and shaping your body, but nutrition drives most fat loss. SmaartCoach pairs your training with a meal plan so the work you put in actually shows up in results.

Frequently asked questions

How are calories burned calculated?

We use MET values, a standard measure of an activity's intensity, combined with your body weight and duration. Heavier people and longer or harder sessions burn more.

How accurate is the estimate?

MET-based estimates are a good general guide but do not account for individual efficiency or fitness. Treat them as an approximation.

Does lifting weights burn calories?

Yes, and it also builds muscle that raises your resting burn over time, so its benefits go beyond the calories used during the session.

Can I lose weight with exercise alone?

Exercise helps, but diet drives most fat loss because it is easier to eat 500 calories than to burn them. Combine both for the best results.
